I've had no time to knit lately and it's really making me sad. This hat took me a whole month to finish. Bah! Not that it wasn't worth it, but it just never takes me that long to knit a simple little hat. *sigh* Anyhow...

These little guys, on the other hand (ha ha), took a weekend. Yup...just a couple of days...a few hours each. That's about as instant gratification as it gets in my opinion!
Just a quickie. Super soft and scrunchy cowl I made up for my mom's birthday.
I improvised this pattern as follows:
Provisionally CO 46
Knit 2 skeins in seed stitch
Slip first edge stitch on each side (this makes a nice smooth edge)
Join sides with 3 needle bind off in pattern

I've heard this rumor that in some parts of the country it's actually spring...still holding out for some consistency in that department. I still feel a little 'winter-y' in that I've been holed up knitting and dabbling with some art. I wish I had a little more to share for all the time I've spent not blogging!
My one big knit has been something that I've wanted to accomplish for a really long time. I can't even remember how many times I've started and failed at this particular scarf. Whether it was my (very short) attention span, the match of yarn to scarf...for whatever reason, it finally came together--and I'm so excited to be able to wrap this around my neck!!

Next up are a couple of funny little drawings in a new moleskine...just some pen and watercolor...subject matter--well, let's just say it's wishful thinking. To say I'm follicularly challenged is an understatement. The hair on my head is about the same quantity and consistency of...a baby chick?
I think that's it for me today...my house is calling for a bit of a clean up before the weekend hits!
Any big spring projects on your plate?
I always cringe when I hear of people saying they'll never learn to knit or it's boring...most times I learn that said people are learning to knit starting with a scarf...Yikes!! I say--if asked--start with a hat!!I recommend learning to knit on a hat for a few reasons--
One of my favorite, easy, go-to hat patterns is the Rikke hat originating out of Happy Knits in Portland. You'll learn a new cast on (which isn't totally necessary to the beauty of the hat-if that sort of thing scares you), you incorporate the knit stitch, the purl stitch, knitting in the round, circular needles, double pointed needles (or alternate small circumference knitting methods) and you'll have a great hat that fits any head wonderfully!
I've made quite a few of this particular hat--
The are all made from my 'go-to' superwash merino yarn; Madelinetosh dk. Colorways from top: Cove, Cedar, Currant.
So there you go--if you are thinking of learning to knit I also say--join Ravelry! A better internet knitting resource you won't find.

I confess, I've been knitting like a fiend. Pretty much ignoring all else...housework, email, holiday decorating...everything really. Not sure why I didn't have much knitting mojo this summer, when it would have been in my best interest to knit gifts... So, a few things...and more to come.
Both of these hats are from the Rustling Leaves Pattern/Coastal Knits book. I knit the green first and then modified the pattern somewhat to make the orange a more fitted hat.
Green: Yarn/ Sanguine Gryphon Bugga in the colorway Cuban Cockroach (very hard to find now)
Orange: Yarn/Casbah Sock in the colorway Pumpkin
Next up is this little sweater, which will be gifted to my niece at Christmas time--it was a relatively quick knit for a sweater-something about the tiny size, I'm sure! Althought tiny, I realized I still despise picking up stitches for button bands--urrgh!
Funny story: I find it difficult (probably because I'm a moron) to sew buttons on to knitted garments and my first attempt on this sweater was hilarious. I, very carefully, placed and attached the buttons, convinced Seth (to his abject horror) to model and took photos. As I was editing the photos, I realized that I didn't have the ruching matched up on both sides, it looked like I was drunk when I affixed the buttons...not the case, but the fact I didn't notice until I edited the photos made me laugh. Re-attached buttons in the properly aligned places and re-photographed...Ask Seth how much I had to pay him to model this a second time AND walk out the door in front of his sister's friends to do it.

I'm hoping by next week I have some more knits to share. I'm also working on some more journal pages AND trying to figure out how to make a December Daily work for me this year.
I also noticed, as I wrote this post today, I'm coming up on my 200th blog post. Probably not a big deal for most people...but for me, I thought it might be fun to have a little giveaway when I hit that mark. Any suggestions as to what I should give? Knit? Yarn? Art? Gift Card?

Scrunchable scarf made from my favorite (and oft used) yarn, Madelinetosh Tosh DK in the colorway Stovepipe. I am not a lover of knitting scarves, so only people I really care about get them--lol. This one was gifted to my sister-in-law. pattern here/yarn here.
